The Shelf Awards 2011. And the winners are…

Winners Christoph Hubner and Jakob Schumacher with The Shelf founder Gary Sharpen

The coveted Shelf was this year won by Christoph Hubner and Jakob Schumacher from Bucks New University.

As is traditional with The Shelf Awards the winners on the night were selected by the guests themeselves. In an intense evening of creative speed-dating the six graduate teams on the shortlist got to showcase their work to some 120 guests consisting of creative directors, copywriters, art directors, recruiters and other industry experts.

As well as competing for The Shelf itself the aim of this free event is the contacts the graduates make during the evening. Judging from the feedback we had at the end of the evening they were overwhelmed by the amount of people they met, the advice they received and the work placements they were offered.

Second place went to Mark Wilson and Steve Parsons from University College Falmouth. Third place was taken by Stephanie Gane and Joshua Crossley from University of Lincoln.

Gary Sharpen, founder of The Shelf, also announced plans to expand the offering of The Shelf both to universities and by taking it’s ethos of support into agencies.

The Shelf Awards -Can You Help?

The Shelf Awards are nearly here and the invitations are about to go out. We pride ourselves on being free to enter for both the participating graduates and their universities. To do this we rely on the goodwill of people in our industry. Thanks to such people we are on track for our 11th year. But we do still need some help in three ways:

1. Five volunteers to help with registration on the night.
2. Someone handy with a camera to record the event.
3. Some modest donations to help with sundry requirements.

If you or your company can help with any of these please get in touch as soon as possible. As well as our gratitude, all help will be credited as sponsors on the night.

Please help keep The Shelf Awards free by lending your support.

Support The Shelf

Every shelf needs some support and this one is no exception. Here’s what a few industry experts have to say about The Shelf Awards:

“The Shelf is a great way to get young talent inspired and make those important first connections in the industry.”
Ian Haworth, Global Chief Creative Officer, Rapp

“To have the six best graduate creative teams in one room is a dream for Creative Directors. For the graduate teams having 200 industry contacts all to themselves is priceless. For everyone in the industry The Shelf is invaluable. Here’s to another 10 years.”
Rachel Gott, Director and Recruiter, apple & ink

“For 10 years The Shelf has offered students the fantastic opportunity of showcasing their work to London’s top integrated agencies. Thank you, Gary.”
Julie Wright, Bucks New University

And finally, a word from the man who’s been assembling The Shelf for the past ten years:
“The Shelf is about offering the young talent a little support to help them on their way. After all what is a shelf? It’s simply a platform.”
Gary Sharpen, Executive Director WDMP & Founder of The Shelf
